How Plumbers/HVAC Control Costs
Three takeaways from PHCC’s Cost Control Roundtable on February 9, 2022
- Inflation caused by supply chain issues – including the Texas freeze last year – has posed the biggest challenge to Plumbing and HVAC Contractors. Some decried getting caught between a fixed price contract and unsupportive suppliers offering little price stability. Big Takeaway: now is the time to build up close relationships with your preferred suppliers and see what deals you can work out.
- Good cost control starts with the old saying: “you can’t manage what you don’t measure.” Successful contractors have clear metrics of cost as a % of revenue – and the software to make this possible. PHCC’s Quality Service Contractors group can provide 1:1 coaching on how to navigate the numbers. If you still run things on spreadsheets or a yellow pad you have a problem.
- Having good Inventory management systems is key. As co-Moderator Scott Berlin from MarginPoint Inventory Management says, “If you embrace technology to track/control inventory, tools, and procurement you can dramatically improve profitability.”
What difference does having good software make to the life of a plumbing/HVAC company? Plumber Donnie Hornback puts it best:
